CASE STUDY
Emerald Secondary College
Overview
Emerald Secondary College engaged Mozaix to build an audio visual system that would bring their new Performing Arts Centre to life. Set in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, the School knew they were building a Centre that was unique to the area and capable of enriching the greater community’s theatrical experience. Working with the School’s clear direction, Mozaix developed a design that ticked all the boxes.
Details
The Challenge
The Performing Arts Centre needed to be a fully functioning Theatre, able to facilitate large productions, music recitals and dance concerts for both the School and the community at large. At the same time, it needed to be easy to set up for School assemblies and lectures.
Our Solution
The audio system was built to be flexible for all uses. A simple ‘one button’ start-up for Lecture Mode allows the system to be used without a technician. Switching into Show Mode brings the mixing console in-line for greater control. The School’s commitment to acoustics in the space supported the use of a point source loudspeaker system and subwoofers. A full complement of audio patching from stage to the equipment rack increases the flexibility of the space. A range of microphones, foldback monitors, communications and cables were supplied to facilitate a simple show, with enough capacity in the system to hire additional equipment for larger events.
Project Features
180” 16:9 Projection Screen
The 180” 16:9 projection screen gives a significant impact for the room when used in lectures and presentations. The ability to patch various video standards (VGA, HDMI & SDI) from stage and the the bio box allow for flexibility into the future.
Lighting
The lighting system comprises of 126 circuits over six 15m circuit tube lighting bars to allow for consistent front and over stage lighting. The two universe DMX patching system allows for multiple control positions from the Bio Box, Stage or the middle of the auditorium. A range of complimenting fixtures including profiles, fresnels, MultiPARs were supplied for a simple lighting show with plenty of scope for a large rig.
Curtain
The final touch was a velvet main house curtain in school colours to define the room. Tab and leg curtains dressed the stage with a canvas white cyc stretched upstage.
“Mozaix developed a clear understanding of the purposes for the facility and worked collaboratively with the school to implement a flexible audio visual solution.”
As a School and Community Performing Arts facility, EPAC needed to be able to fulfil a diverse range of audio visual requirements for users with a diverse range of skills. Mozaix developed a clear understanding of the purposes for the facility and worked collaboratively with the school to implement a flexible audio visual solution. The result is a system that enables a range of situations from the production of professional level performances to presentations that can be set up by a teacher as easily as plugging into a classroom projector. The quality of audio reinforcement has already been noted by a number of hirers and community members.
Training
Training and documentation made it easy for the school community to seamlessly take control of the new facility. The Mozaix team provided ongoing support and advice through the initial stages and assisted in adding some cost effective enhancements and alterations. The installation has allowed for the easy addition of hired equipment including LED walls, additional projectors etc.
Support
As with all facilities of a technical nature, there were a couple of equipment issues. We were pleased with the timely and efficient response from Mozaix. Communication was clear and the timeline for issue resolution was reassuring and accurate. This has ensured that the use of the facility has not been interrupted at any point.”
